Insomnia is a symptom of a sleeping disorder characterized by persistent difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep despite the opportunity. Insomnia is a symptom, not a stand-alone diagnosis or a disease. By definition, insomnia is “difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep, or both” and it may be due to inadequate quality or quantity of sleep. It is typically followed by functional impairment while awake. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insomnia
It’s really hard if you’re suffering from insomnia especially if you’re a student. I can’t imagine myself staying up the whole night knowing that I have my exams in the morning. Have you tried counting the sheep? counting one until you fall asleep? I know, it doesn’t work. So here’s how.
Some Steps on How to Cure Insomnia
1. Relax and Clear Out Your Mind
Have your time to relax. Forget about your worries and doubts, clear out your mind. I think it would be better if you write down all your worries on a notebook and try to forgot them even just for a day. It’s the best thing to do if you can’t sleep.
2. Don’t eat too much
It’s easy to understand right. Eating too much especially on bedtime snacks. Also, avoid eating high in protein foods and foods which has lot of fats and sugars.
3. Exercise Regularly
Exercise should be done early in the morning not before going to bed.
4. Lower internal and external stimulation
Avoid drinking drinks with caffeine and high level sugars such as teas, coffees, sodas and chocolates. Also, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages, though we know that alcohols can help us to get some sleep but we couldn’t get the quality of sleep that we need. Balance your time.
5. Set yourself a bedtime routine
Of course, you should have your bedtime routines. Set a time for going to bed. Remember, you need to have seven to eight hours of sleep. Keep strictly to them.
